Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our classes start at 9 am and end at 3:20 pm. We offer early morning drop-off starting at 8:00 a.m. and extended day pick-up ending at 4:00 p.m. We are excited to share that our extended day hours will change to 8am to 6pm for the 2026-2027 school year. 

     

    Our extended day program is offered at a reasonable tuition rate. Come in and chat with us!

  • Amalgamated Nursery School uses a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum. Learning happens through "activity centers" spaced throughout the classroom where children are free to move around and choose the experiences that interest them most.

  • eachers guide children in practicing vital social skills like cooperation, negotiation, and problem-solving. Independence and self-concept are encouraged by giving children options to make choices and establishing a predictable classroom routine.

  • Mathematical learning is integrated into daily play. Children explore concepts like counting, sorting, measuring, graphing, and identifying patterns through hands-on activities like block play, puzzles, manipulative materials, music, and tracking seasonal changes.

  • Children are given constant opportunities to converse with adults and peers to build their vocabulary. Literacy is promoted through whole-group and small-group read-alouds, print-rich environments, rhyming games, and daily drawing and writing opportunities (such as dictating stories or creating class books).

  • Science is learned by doing. Children discover and investigate through handling materials, making predictions, caring for the environment, and tending to classroom pets. The school also collaborates with community organizations like the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance.

  • We are fortunate to have a great catering company that provides us wth delicious and nutritious snacks and lunch for your child to enjoy! So no need to send a snack or lunch!

    Each class sits for one morning snack and one afternoon snack. Early drop-off and extended day kids are offered breakfast and an additional snack, respectively.

  • Each child is allowed a blanket, a sheet, and a soft stuffed animal.

  • We are fortunate to be in such a fantastic neighborhood, where businesses and community members welcome us with open arms. During the school year, classes may take walking trips to various parts of our neighborhood. This can include the library, pizza shop, lake, and much more!

  • No, we are a technology free school as it relates to the kids. However, you will be able to see highlights of your child's day on Class Dojo!
